The Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation (Russian Ministry of Energy) is a federal body of executive authority responsible for the development and implementation of public policy and legal regulation in the sphere of fuel and energy sector, including electricity, oil, gas, coal, oil shale and the peat industry, main pipelines of oil, gas and refined products, renewable energy sources, development of hydrocarbon deposits on the basis of production agreements, and in the petrochemical industry.

The Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation is also responsible for public policy and legal regulation in the field of energy conservation and energy efficiency for energy audits, information security measures for energy conservation and energy efficiency, taking into account the use of energy resources.

The Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation within the limits of its competence execute the functions of formation, use and disposal of state information resources of fuel and energy complex of the Russian Federation, as well as the creation of the state information system in the field of energy conservation and energy efficiency, and the conditions for its operation.
